Old swords, inscription-stones and hill-graves proove that Landskron was already settled in the 9th Century bef.Chr. An amount of these founds are imured in the "Kronensaal" today. A document of King Karlmann from the year 878 reports that the possession was given to the monastery Altoetting in Bayern. 1028 Count Ozzi appears as new Lord, then the counts from Sternberg came,who built a Castle. 1330 the castle was sold to the Counts of Ortenburg.

In a document from the 25th of July 1351 Landskron was mentiened the first time. 1355 the Habsburger are the new Lords,powned 1392 to the Counts from Cilli. From 1436 till 1447 the Lords from Stubenberg were at Landskron. Emperor Maximilian I. gave Landskron 1511 to the St. George Ritterorden; 1542 the castle buned down. It could not be rebuilt from the Ritterorden. Christoph Khevenhüller from Aichberg bought the castle at the 8th of July 1852.

1552 Emperor Karl V. was on Landskron.A son of Khevenhüller, called Bartlmä made a "Lustschloss" and ensured it's ability to defense. Ten years long a 150 meter deep well was built.At the time of 1600 Landskron is the splendid count-center of the Renaissance. The castle was surrounded with a double wall with seven towers.The main building had four floors, a high main-tower and strong defense-tower.

1628 the evangelist aristocracy had to emigrate, and the castle was seized. 1639 count Dietrichstein aquired Landskron. 1812 a flash struck the castle and it burnt down. From the ruin 1953 Hans Maresch established a first-class cafe-restaurant.After his death his sister, Mrs Christine Kunz took over the ruin and brought it at the today's level trough further change work. 1982 Mrs Kunz transfered her possesion to her two daughters Elisabeth Catasta and Susanne Bucher. Today this romantic place is one of the most beautiful objects of interest. A good car-road leads to parking lots directly into the inside of the castle. By feet the ruin can be achieved on a quied path trough a forrest. There is a splendourful prospect at the "Karawanken" and the "julischen Alpen" (Mountains). You can also enjoy the view on Villach, the ossiacher-lake and the "Kanzelhöhe" (Mountain).
